The challenge

Plant-import inspection is labour intensive and often depends on visual assessment and physical sampling, limiting throughput and making hidden infestations difficult to detect rapidly.

How the project works

senseApest is developing a portable detection unit based on volatile organic compounds emitted by pests and affected plants, combining complementary sensing technologies, algorithms and a reference database.

Our contribution

Oliveris develops the electronics that connect to and read the different gas and liquid sensors inside the portable detection unit (PDU). This includes adapting analogue electronics from related photonic-sensor work, designing low-power multilayer PCBs and making sure the different sensors can work together through practical, common interfaces. Oliveris also supports sensor selection and integration, miniaturisation, software interfaces and laboratory testing of the PDU. On the commercial side, Oliveris works with AIRMO on Task 9.5 to develop the business case, including target markets, customer needs, competitive positioning and routes to deployment.
