The challenge

Current chemical and biological detection often depends on laboratory equipment, long turnaround times and individual sensing modes that provide limited information about complex chemical environments.

How the project works

SafeDrop combines photonic and electronic sensing in co-located cells and uses machine learning to interpret high-dimensional chemical fingerprints, targeting compact field-deployable sensing across water, health-related, food and air applications.

Our contribution

Oliveris is the Technical Lead for SafeDrop and leads WP5, covering sensor electronics and data acquisition, as well as WP6 Validation. The team defines how the sensor cartridges connect to the Closed-Loop Testing Platforms (CLTPs), develops the AiO reader and the sensor-interface electronics, and builds the data-acquisition system that keeps optical and electrical measurements synchronised. This includes scalable backplanes, firmware and the switching and measurement functions used to interrogate the sensor arrays. Oliveris then brings these elements together through CLTP operation and design-verification work across the water, health, food and air/VOC use cases. Oliveris also leads exploitation planning, engagement with OEMs and other stakeholders, and business-plan development so the technical work has a clear route towards industrial use.
